September is Sepsis Awareness Month

September is Sepsis Awareness Month

Sepsis is a progressive shutdown of the body’s organs and systems caused by systemic inflammation following an infection that enters the blood or soft tissue. Those who don’t die often experience life-altering consequences like missing limbs or organ dysfunction. Studies have shown that early detection combined with appropriate interventions can significantly improve the chances of survival.

“T.I.M.E.” will help you recognize symptoms of Sepsis

Few people know that sepsis ranks as the third leading cause of death in the U.S. (after heart disease and cancer). Sepsis is the body’s toxic, or severe, response to an infection.  The condition has been mentioned in the media multiple times over the years, however there still is a lot of misinformation out there about it, including the incorrect idea that sepsis is rare.

The NHS in England has launched a tool that will enable hospitals to more accurately measure numbers of patients admitted as emergencies with severe bacterial infection who are at risk of sepsis, as part of efforts to improve sepsis prevention and reduce deaths.

How Antimicrobial Resistance Amplifies the Burden of Sepsis

Sepsis, a life-threatening condition caused by the body’s extreme reaction to an infection, has become a global health threat, affecting 30 million people worldwide and causing between six and nine million deaths each year. We need to do more to ensure this quiet killer is silent no more.

Happy Anniversary to the Love of My Life

                               Me and My Knight 9/28/74

Happy Anniversary to the Love of My Life
Forty-four years ago today, September 28th,1974, I married the Love of my Life, My Knight,
But this year I no longer have a reason to celebrate the life we made together,
You were taken from me too soon, no more happy memories to make, only the memories from the past that we shared,
All the things we did together to make this house you loved so much a home,
The family we raised, the grandchildren we cherish,
We laughed together, we cried together, through the good times and the bad, supporting each other in everything we did,
The only person I could ever count on, the only person I ever will,
We loved each other unconditionally, no matter what life threw at us,
We were always each other’s rock, I’ll never have that again,
I am so lost without you, we did everything together, I feel so alone and unhappy,
Our Love will last FOREVER, even in death,
I long to hear your voice and see your smiling face, the happiness in your eyes,
My heart will never mend until I’m in your arms again,
I’m no longer the strong person I used to be, I’m half a person without you, my heart is broken in two,
Marriage vows say until death do we part, but our marriage will not end at death,
We will be married forever, husband and wife throughout eternity,
Praying that we will be reunited again when my time on earth is over,
The sooner the better, again we will be one,
Happy Anniversary to you my Knight and please never leave my side,
I can’t bare the thought of not feeling you close to me, please don’t ever go.
I Love you my Knight and I always will. I will never let you go.

Love Always and Forever, Dot xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Today is the 17 month Anniversary of the Medical Murder of my Husband by ILLEGAL, Non-Consensual Palliative/Hospice Care

Today makes 17 months since the death of my husband Billy. My Knight in Shining Armor. The love of my life. His life stolen by ILLEGAL, NON-consensual Palliative/Hospice Care at a local Nashua, NH Hospital where Circle of Life (DEATH) Palliative Medicine works out of.The only Hospital we ever trusted to take care of us and our family. A trust broken by unethical so-called Doctor's, forced on my husband WITHOUT CONSENT, in secret. Never told of the infection my husband had when he went into the Hospital. Never told of ANY of the illnesses they found through almost daily lab tests. Never treated for ANYTHING! Overdosed with Morphine to weaken him and push him to his death. No longer able to sustain ANY quality of life. Sent home with a Urinary Tract Infection AND SEPSIS and NEVER told, nor treated for either.
Visiting AIM Nurses were "supposed" to be coming in every other day, because we adamantly REFUSED Hospice care. Someone sent a Hospice/Palliative care Nurse Practitioner to our home, unbeknownst to us who she was. We were NEVER told. The crude BITCH antagonized my husband so horribly, he had a heart attack. We weren't told that either. I found it in his Medical file. He ended up back in the same Hellhole Hospital. If we had known of the illnesses and treatment he WASN'T getting, he would have been taken elsewhere. Not back to the same dump that wasn't helping him. He kept saying they were trying to kill him and he was right. He was ALWAY'S right. After filing complaints with the NH Board of Nursing, who found NOTHING wrong with the standard of care in my husband's case (they must have blinders on), they did NOTHING to this Bitch Nurse Practitioner OR the unethical Bitch Hospice/Palliative care Nurse Practitioner at the Hospital that ultimately MURDERED my husband, who started calling the shots, ILLEGALLY, without our CONSENT. The Bitch who tried to force a Morphine drip on my husband to "just let him go", which we wouldn't do. The Nursing Board did absolutely NOTHING, because there is NO standard of care any longer, but I did in fact get the Bitch that came to our home fired. Beware, she is now working at a Family practice in NH. I wonder how many people she's killed since she's been there!
Brought back to the same Hellhole Hospital and denied treatment, because they stated they didn't know what the infection was or where it was. IF they tried reading the lab reports, they clearly show he had a UTI and SEPSIS. But NO, he was just left to die!
My husband should NOT be dead! If he had been given the care he needed he would be alive today!
Don't EVER try telling me that Death Panels don't exist, because they most certainly DO. The Ethics Committees in Hospitals ARE Death Panels. It is NOT up to them to decide who lives or dies! Only God should be making that call! If Doctors no longer care about patients, they need to find another line of work! Money isn't everything. My husband's life was worth more than ANY of them will ever make off their greed in a lifetime!
I Love You My Knight and I ALWAYS WILL! I will fight for you until the end of time! You WILL get Justice!
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Massive Sepsis Trial Resembles ‘An Experiment That Would Be Conducted On Laboratory Animals,’ Advocates Say

A trial enrolling new patients resembles “an experiment that would be conducted on laboratory animals,” one advocacy group said.
A large government trial comparing treatments for a life-threatening condition called sepsis is putting participants at risk of organ failure and even death, critics charge, and should be immediately shut down.

Why scary stories about sepsis could lead to some unintended harms

Why scary stories about sepsis could lead to some unintended harms

There’s no shortage of frightening news about healthy young people suddenly felled by sepsis, a condition in which the body’s immune system goes into overdrive in response to an infection.
Never mind that most people who get sepsis in the U.S. are older adults, and that others at high risk include infants, women giving birth, and people with weakened immune systems or chronic illnesses such as diabetes or cancer.

Where does palliative sedation become euthanasia?

Where does palliative sedation become euthanasia?
A special issue of the journal Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics is devoted to the controversial issue of palliative sedation. As the editor, bioethicist Daniel Sulmasy, points out, palliative sedation has special relevance for Christians. For them, the relief of unnecessary suffering is a duty, but euthanasia is wrong. Identifying the right response to suffering at the end of life is often perplexing, especially since some doctors use palliative sedation as terminal sedation – rendering patients unconscious and withdrawing hydration and nutrition until they die.

NT coroner condemns Top End Health Service over death of elderly men in Darwin

An elderly man was "left untreated to die in pain" and health services were more intent on defending their actions than analysing the facts, a damning coronial inquest into the death of two men in Darwin has revealed.
Henry Wilson, 77, died from sepsis on September 19, 2016 — but despite that, Top End Health Service never reported his case to the coroner.

New York study examines impact of "Rory's Regulations"
New York state hospitals' adherence to sepsis protocols increased and sepsis mortality declined after reporting became mandatory, researchers said.
The analysis of sepsis reporting data from 185 New York hospitals from April 2014 through June 2016 found that sepsis protocols were initiated in 81.3% of eligible patients, most often in emergency care settings.

-Barriers to accurate diagnosis still present, group says

WASHINGTON -- Misdiagnosis is still a big problem, and more awareness of the issue is needed, several experts said Thursday.
"Every 9 minutes, someone in a U.S. hospital dies due to a medical diagnosis that was wrong or delayed," Paul Epner, MD, said at an event here sponsored by the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine (SIDM). "It's estimated each year between 40,000 and 80,000 deaths can be attributed to inaccurate or delayed diagnosis."

World Sepsis Day 2018: New protocol saves lives

World Sepsis Day 2018: New protocol saves lives

As part of World Sepsis Day, we cover a recent study into newly implemented sepsis protocols. It concludes that they improve care and decrease the risk of death by 15 percent.

Sepsis in numbers

There are more than 1.7 million cases of sepsis in the United States each year and around 270,000 result in death. Of all deaths that occur in hospital, 1 in 3 are due to sepsis.

Sepsis death in Doncaster hospital prompts mother to speak out

The mother of a 26-year-old woman whose death from sepsis was "avoidable" is speaking out to prevent more deaths.
Anna Hemmings died in Doncaster Royal Infirmary in October 2015.
An investigation by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) has found staff did not diagnose and treat the sepsis quickly enough, and she died as a result.
Anna's mother, Katie Hemmings, urged patients to speak out to medical staff if they have sepsis symptoms.

Time To Terminate "Assisted Dying"

Time To Terminate "Assisted Dying"

IN 2002 Belgium legalized the murderously chilling act of euthanasia, whereby doctors and nurses kill patients with their supposed consent. Holland had formally done the same the year before. This practice, all too reminiscent of what Nazi Germany did before WWII to the mentally handicapped and to people with very serious disabilities, is justified these days not by Hitlerian theories of "purifying the race," of course, but as a "humane" way to deal with those who are suffering mortal illnesses and in extreme pain.

Sepsis Awareness Day

Sepsis Awareness Day

Flanked by Putnam County Hospital officials, Greencastle Mayor Bill Dory signs a proclamation supporting Sept. 13 as Sepsis Awareness Day in the City of Greencastle, urging citizens to note the occasion as the life-threatening illness is responsible for a quarter-million American deaths each year with more than 1.5 million cases of sepsis occurring in the country.

What are the first signs of sepsis?
Sepsis Symptoms
  • Fever and chills.
  • Very low body temperature.
  • Peeing less than normal.
  • Rapid pulse.
  • Rapid breathing.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Diarrhea.
  • According to these symptoms, my husband had SEPSIS when he was discharged from the Hospital on April 6, 2017, but because they suck so bad they did absolutely NOTHING to help him!!!

Septic Shock

Septic Shock

Sepsis is the result of an infection, and causes drastic changes in the body. It can be very dangerous and potentially life-threatening.
It occurs when chemicals that fight infection by triggering inflammatory reactions are released into the bloodstream.
Doctors have identified three stages of sepsis:
  • Sepsis is when the infection reaches the bloodstream and causes inflammation in the body.
  • Severe sepsis is when the infection is severe enough to affect the function of your organs, such as the heartbrain, and kidneys.
  • Septic shock is when you experience a significant drop in blood pressure that can lead to respiratory or heart failurestroke, failure of other organs, and death......................................................................................
  • A bacterial, fungal, or viral infection can cause sepsis. Any of the infections may begin at home or while you are in the hospital for treatment of another condition.
    Sepsis commonly originates from:

An interview with Dr. Steven Simpson, MD, discussing the importance of raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of sepsis, and how Sepsis Alliance is helping to reduce the number of deaths caused by sepsis in the USA.

What is sepsis and why is it so dangerous?

The definition of sepsis that was agreed upon a couple of years ago by critical care physicians is that sepsis is life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. There are several parts to this.

Early detection of sepsis saves lives

Early detection of sepsis saves lives

PITTSBURG — World Sepsis Awareness Day is a nationwide campaign to help prevent sepsis related deaths with early prevention.
On Thursday health care providers across the world, including Via Christi Pittsburg, will raise awareness of sepsis.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sepsis is “the body’s extreme response to an infection. Sepsis is life-threatening, and without prompt treatment, often rapidly leads to tissue damage, organ failure and death.”
Pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus (staph), Escherichia coli (E. coli) and some types of Streptococcus, are the most frequently identified as pathogens which can develop into sepsis, the CDC said.

Patients with sepsis are at increased risk of stroke or myocardial infarction (heart attack) in the first 4 weeks after hospital discharge, according to a large Taiwanese study published in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal).
Sepsis accounts for an estimated 8 million deaths worldwide, and in Canada causes more than half of all deaths from infectious diseases.

September is Sepsis Awareness Month

September is Sepsis Awareness Month
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that at least 1.5 million people annually get sepsis in the U.S. Of these 1.5 million people, 250,000 will die. As medical professionals, we’ve all taken care of patients with sepsis. We know that sepsis causes our patients to become very sick, very quickly. The CDC defines sepsis as, “…the body’s extreme response to an infection. It is a life-threatening medical emergency. Sepsis happens when an infection you already have —in your skin, lungs, urinary tract, or somewhere else—triggers a chain reaction throughout your body.”
Basically, sepsis can occur without notice – which is why we must take it seriously and be diligent about prevent detention and prevention.
